Voice of the Child Practice Guidance & Toolkit
North Yorkshire Safeguarding Children Partnership are delighted to announce the publication of the new Voice of the Child Practice Guidance and the accompanying Voice of the Child Toolkit, now available on the North Yorkshire Safeguarding Children Partnership (NYSCP) website:
Voice of the Child – Practice Guidance & Toolkit.
Why this matters:
This resource has been developed in direct response to actions from several learning reviews and multi-agency audits across the partnership, which highlighted the need to strengthen how we capture, listen to, and act upon the voices of all children—including those who are non-verbal or face additional barriers to communication. Capturing the voice of the child is not a one-off event, but a continuous process of engagement, interpretation, and action. It is fundamental to strong safeguarding practice and professional curiosity, helping us to understand children’s experiences, identify their needs, and recognise risks or protective factors in their lives.
What’s included:
- Practical hints, tips, and resources for all age groups and abilities
- Guidance on trauma-informed practice, developmental stages, and creative communication
- Tools for working with children with special educational needs and disabilities
- Case examples and links to further resources
