Join the Front Door to Safeguarding: Education Lead Opportunities within MAST

The North Yorkshire Safeguarding Children Partnership (NYSCP) is pleased to highlight an exciting opportunity for experienced safeguarding professionals to join North Yorkshire Council’s Multi-Agency Screening Team (MAST) as an Education Lead. North Yorkshire Council is recruiting two new Education Lead posts, helping to strengthen the voice of education within safeguarding and early help systems across the county.

These newly created roles come at an important time for children’s services and social care reform, ensuring that education remains a central partner in decisions affecting children, young people and families. The successful candidates will play both operational and strategic roles, bringing educational expertise into multi-agency discussions and helping to shape service delivery.

Why this role matters

Schools, academies and education providers are often uniquely placed to identify emerging concerns, understand family circumstances and build trusted relationships with children and young people. By embedding Education Leads within MAST, North Yorkshire is strengthening collaboration between education and children’s services to ensure children receive the right support at the right time.

The Education Leads will:

  • Act as a key link between education settings and Children’s Services.
  • Gather, analyse and present safeguarding information from schools and academies to support decision-making.
  • Represent education within multi-agency screening, safeguarding and risk assessment processes.
  • Provide advice, challenge and support to safeguarding leaders within education settings.
  • Help improve the quality of safeguarding referrals and practice across the education sector.
  • Champion the voices of children, young people and families throughout decision-making processes.

About MAST

The Multi-Agency Screening Team brings together professionals from Children’s Services, Early Help, North Yorkshire Police, Health, Probation and Emotional Wellbeing Services to consider referrals and determine the most appropriate support for children and families. The addition of Education Leads will further strengthen this collaborative approach and ensure that educational insight informs safeguarding decisions from the earliest point of contact.
