Have your say on safety across York and North Yorkshire

Residents are being invited to share their experiences and views through the 2026 York and North Yorkshire Violence Survey.

The survey, launched by Jo Coles, Deputy Mayor for Policing, Fire and Crime, asks people how safe they feel in their communities and whether they have been affected by violence or violent crime. This year, it also includes questions about online safety.

Anyone who has experienced violence, felt unsafe or been affected by violent crime is encouraged to take part. Responses will help partners better understand local experiences and inform future services, support and approaches to reducing violence across York and North Yorkshire.

Last year, 76% of survey selections indicated that respondents felt safest in their local area. Anti-social behaviour accompanied by fear of serious violence was the most commonly experienced issue, accounting for 19% of selections.

The survey is open until Sunday 27 September 2026.
