Be Aware: Child Exploitation new resources!
To coincide with National Child Exploitation Awareness day and the launch of the new NYSCP Multi-Agency and Child Exploitation and Contextual Safeguarding Strategy the BeAware site has been updated with some new resources:
Financial Exploitation:
Financial exploitation is a new and evolving form of exploitation, it involves criminals approaching children and young people online through gaming and social media platforms, and in places like shops and cashpoints with offers of quick cash and fake job opportunities, only to use and control their bank accounts to commit fraud and launder money from organised crime.
We’ve added a new section onto our professionals page explaining what financial exploitation is, signs that it is happening and links to ‘explainer’ resources from the Children’s Society as part of their #LookCloser campaign.
Find out more here: NYSCP (safeguardingchildren.co.uk)
We’ve also added information on financial exploitation onto our parents and carers page: NYSCP (safeguardingchildren.co.uk)
The Children’s Society will also be running a free, online MACE learning event specifically looking at child financial exploitation on Friday 22nd March 12:00- 13:30. Booking is available via NYES: Child Financial Exploitation Training | NYES Info
Sexually Coerced Extortion
Sexually coerced extortion is a serious form of blackmail that involves the exploitation of nude, explicit or sensitive images or videos to coerce victims into unwanted actions such as sharing further explicit imagery or paying to prevent further sharing.
We’ve updated our Professionals page on Child Sexual Exploitation to give you more information about what this can look like in North Yorkshire NYSCP (safeguardingchildren.co.uk), and included information on our parents and carers page: NYSCP (safeguardingchildren.co.uk)
The Children’s Society will be running a free, online MACE learning event specifically looking as sexually coerced extortion on Wednesday 20th March 16:00-17:00. Booking via NYES: Child Exploitation Learning Event: Hand in Hand Project | NYES Info
