There will be presentations that draw on findings from safeguarding adult reviews and serious case reviews, and from research.
As part of the ongoing work that Professor Christine Cocker has completed with Research in Practice about Transitional Safeguarding, they have undertaken a piece of work studying a number of review reports written following the death or serious injury of care experienced young people aged between 15-24. Themes from these reviews will be discussed, particularly whether any Transitional Safeguarding needs around housing and homelessness were identified or not, and met or not met in the care planning for these young people.

#NYPThinkOfTheConsequences
North Yorkshire Police has launched a hard-hitting video campaign this summer to encourage young people to think of the consequences before abusing alcohol.
The video which is titled #NYPThinkOfTheConsquences was commissioned following instances of alcohol fuelled anti-social behaviour in open spaces within York during the summer months. It will be shown to all secondary school children within the City of York ahead of the summer break and posted externally on NYP social media channels.
York College drama students are used as actors in a scenario which involves a visit to a park. The students consume alcohol which impacts on their decision making and results in five consequences which involve the emergency services and family members. Viewers of the video are then asked, “Is it worth it?” and the video concludes with the message of #NYPThinkOfTheConsequences.
Police hope the video will highlight the risks associated with alcohol and help educate young people about the impairment on their decision making following the consumption of alcohol and the devastating consequences that this can bring.
Be Aware: New information – Child Financial exploitation
We might not immediately think of children when we hear the words ‘financial fraud.’ But the reality is that more and more young people are finding themselves the victims of financial exploitation. Young People are being groomed online to open bank accounts and launder criminal money. Be Aware have updated their professionals page with help from The Children’s Society, to share key information about this emerging trend.
To find out more about what child financial exploitation can look like, what the signs are, and how we can start the conversations with young people about keeping their finances safe, visit here: NYSCP (safeguardingchildren.co.uk)
We’ve updated our child exploitation ‘Jargon Buster’ page to included key phrases and terminology used by young people and perpetrators linked to child financial exploitation. NYSCP (safeguardingchildren.co.uk)
We also have a section for communities and local businesses with key information about spotting the signs of child exploitation in the places and spaces young people may be spending their time. This includes a specific section targeting the banking sector and highlighting signs of potential child exploitation. NYSCP (safeguardingchildren.co.uk)
